Chuck DeVore: Talk show host

July 26th, 2010, 6:16 pm · Post a Comment · posted by BRIAN JOSEPH, Sacramento Correspondent

Army Reserve lieutenant colonel, Reagan appointee in the Pentagon, author, sci-fi fan, state lawmaker and unabashed conservative Chuck DeVore hopes to add another title to his burgeoning resume: full-time radio talk show host.

For the last two Sundays, the Orange County assemblyman, who lost to Carly Fiorina in the Republican primary for U.S. Senate last month, has guest hosted evening programs on KFI where he’s interviewed the likes of former Arkansas governor (and former Presidential hopeful) Mike Huckabee; Adam Baldwin, star of NBC’s Chuck; comic book artist Bosch Fawstin and Israel’s Counsel General Jacob Dayan.

Talk about an eclectic lineup.

DeVore says his guest hosting gig is “an extended job interview” to see if he’s got the chops to host his own radio program, full time. DeVore is termed out of the Assembly in November and is looking for a way to stay in the public eye while also remaining involved in public policy. A radio program, he says, would be perfect.

“I was delighted to be called back for a second time,” said DeVore said of his second radio program yesterday, where producers specifically asked him to take calls and host one hour on air without any guests to see if he could handle it.

His first program, on July 18, was Comic-Con themed, reflecting the Assemblyman’s love for sci-fi. (Insider info: The living room of DeVore’s Sacramento apartment once was decorated with campaign signs and a poster of Yoda.) In addition to Baldwin and Fawstin he had on comic book writer James Hudnull and Tommy Tallarico,  a video game music composer and the producer of Video Games Live.

DeVore said he intentionally chose a non-political lineup for his first program to show the bigwigs at KFI that he can talk about other things besides public policy. The producers asked for more politics in his second show and he responded with Huckabee, the Israeli counsel general and an hour on the scandal in Bell and his own investigation into some Medi-Cal fraud. His wife, Diane, has joined him in the studio, for support and to keep him on schedule.

DeVore says he’s optimistic he’s showing enough to someday soon get his own show. For the meantime, he’s waiting for his next invitation to guest host.

“We’ll see where, if anywhere, it leads,” he said.

I’m on KFI Sunday evening from 7-10pm.

You can listen online at: http://www.kfiam640.com/mediaplayer/?station=KFI-AM&action=listenlive&channel_title=

I’ll be guest hosting a Comic-Con International-themed program with:

Adam Baldwin, Actor: 7:00 to 7:45
Tommy Tallarico, producer, Video Games Live: 7:45 to 8:30
James Hudnall, comic writer, creator of The Psycho and ESPers: 8:30 to 9:00
Bosch Fawstin, comic writer, creator of The Infidel: 9:00 to 10:00

Through 7:45 I’ll have Chuck star Adam Baldwin.  Adam plays Major John Casey, a National Security Agency agent assigned to protect Chuck.  Adam also starred in the film Serenity and the critically-acclaimed series Firefly. When he’s not in front of the camera, Adam can be found helping our wounded veterans with the Ride 2 Recovery. He also writes for Andrew Breitbart’s Big Hollywood.

Next up, through 8:30, I’ll be interviewing the fabulous Tommy Tallarico, co-creator and producer of Video Games Live and the co-host of Reviews on the Run.  Tommy is a musician and video games music composer and will discuss the growing convergence between film and video games and their impact on culture. Sunday night’s show also marks the world premier of Tommy’s latest album.

Comic book creator and writer James Hudnall will be on from 8:30 to top of the 9 o’clock hour.  James’ work has appeared internationally and has attracted the attention of Hollywood.  He’s leading a writers’ workshop at Comic-ConBig Hollywood features his strip Obama Nation, while Big Journalism carries, Useful Idiots, which pokes fun at major media.  He describes Para-Realism, his political philosophy, as taking Randian Objectivism to the next level. The final hour of the show features Bosch Fawstin, the creator of the controversial The Infidel series.  The Infidel features Pigman, a counter-jihad superhero.  (One of Pigman’s slogans is, “Give us liberty, Give them death.”)  Bosch’s Albanian Muslim background gives him a unique inside perspective which he wrote up in a piece for Capitalism Magazine called, “Calling Islam ‘Islam.’

The Chuck DeVore Radio Program, KFI AM 640 7.18.10

Jul 14 2010 Published by Chuck under The Chuck DeVore Radio Program

I’ll have a 3-hour radio show on KFI this Sunday, July 18 from 7 to 10 PM.  I’m making it a Comic-Con International-themed program since that huge Comic book/Sci-Fi/video games convention occurs the following week in San Diego.

Over the next day I’ll be writing about the show and the great guests we have lined up from Hollywood and the world of comic books and video games.  We’ll talk about what they do for a living and explore the connections between their work and the wider culture.

First up on the show we’ll have Chuck star Adam Baldwin.
